SAN JOSE, Calif. - Just hours ago, she was at Bryan Stow's hospital bedside. A close friend is back on the Central Coast and explains why she thinks the Giants fan will survive his injuries.
After spending a week in Los Angeles, Gina Lenson couldn't take the agony anymore and came home Thursday night.
"Ok, I said I'm right here," says Lenson. "Can you move your hand? Can you move your fingers? He lifted his hand up and put it on the handrail and one of the nurses came in. I said why don't you show her what you are doing? He lifted his hand back up and put it on his nightgown."
Lenson is describing signs of progress by her close friend Bryan Stow. She said he was moving on Wednesday but on Thursday, he remains in a medically induced coma and is in critical condition.
"It wasn't really what we were hoping for today," says Lenson. "Yesterday he was pretty active. He was moving around by command, by voice command. Today, he's back sedated. He can't really respond to voice at this point."
Lenson used to date Stow. They're both diehard Giants fans. She calls this whole experience surreal and said Stow's family is staying strong, thanks to the community's outpouring of support. She said Bryan would appreciate it all.
"He would be so excited, because he loves attention," says Lenson. "He would be so touched and so excited. I'm just devastated he won't be able to be a part of it."
For her, she clings to hope Bryan will make a full recovery.
"I know Bryan so well," says Lenson. "I know how stubborn he is. If he wasn't going to get through this. He wouldn't still be fighting. I'm very hopeful he will be okay."
