HOLLISTER, Calif - Part of Westbound Highway 152 at Dinosaur Point Road was closed after a fatal accident took the life of a 5-year-old boy and his aunt.
According to CHP, a car crashed into the embankment and then burst into flames. Witnesses were able to pull the 27-year-old driver and the two passengers out before the car was completely engulfed in flames.
The driver was transported to San Jose Regional Hospital with lacerations to her face and complaint of pain to her back and neck. CHP said that she has major injuries including broken ribs, and a fractured neck.
The driver's 5-year-old son and 35-year-old sister both died on impact.
The cause of this collision is under investigation. CHP says that they were driving from Mendota back to Salinas when the accident happened. Alcohol does do not appear to be a factor, said the CHP.
One lane of westbound Highway 152 was shut down from 7:10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and traffic was backed up passed the Merced County line.
