SANTA CRUZ, Calif- As of Friday night students continue to occupy two UCSC buildings and as many as 500 have flown in and out of meetings and demonstrations.
"Since it's been a long two days, tonight we're focusing on strategy, building the numbers that are necessary to mount a campaign that is going to last the rest of the year and beyond," said Graduate Student Don Kingsbury.
After protesting the 32 percent fee hikes over the last couple of days students got a clear message from the University Executive Vice Chancellor David Kliger.
Students sent the administration a list of demands and in return the administration asked students to leave exits unobstructed. Vice Chancellor Kliger says they've failed to honor that commitment but students say that agreement was respected and still want their demands honored.
"It's a streamline list of demands, concrete things that can be done here at UC Santa Cruz," said Kingsley.
Some of the demands are simple like keeping the university a safe campus. Others are not so simple, like repealing the 15% cut in labor time for campus custodians and a freeze on layoffs to all campus employees.
Regardless the administion asks students to voluntarily leave or they will they will be forcibly removed.
Saturday at noon students and faculty are going to meet with a number of administrative staff to discuss the demands students have issued.
