MONTEREY, Calif- The Monterey Bay Aquarium will mark its 25th Anniversary at the Kelp Forest -with a special edition of the regular morning feeding show followed by a short ceremony and ceremonial anniversary cake.
Aquarium Co-Founder Dr. Steve Webster will lead the ceremony. He will be introducing a new aquarium report, Turning the Tide: The State of Seafood, detailing why global prospects for securing a sustainable seafood supply are improving.
Turning the Tide: The State of Seafood includes a new "Super Green" list of seafood that's heart-healthy and good for the oceans. Along with the release of the report, the aquarium will also launch a national campaign with celebrity chefs and culinary leaders to "Save Our Seafood" through their menu choices.
Since its inception as the dream of Dr. Webster and three other marine biologists and its creation with a founding gift from David and Lucile Packard, the Monterey Bay Aquarium has been the trendsetter in exhibits, education and conservation leadership. It is routinely ranked as the No. 1 aquarium in the United States, and is a leader in the international aquarium community.
In the decade since it was created, the aquarium's Seafood Watch program has transformed the seafood market by creating demand for ocean-friendly seafood from consumers, to chefs and restaurants, to major buyers.
The event will take place Tuesday, October 20, 11:30 a.m. at the Aquarium's Kelp Forest exhibit.
